Camby out 2-4 weeks with injured left foot
NEW YORK — New York Knicks big man Marcus Camby is expected to miss two to four weeks because of an injured left foot.
The Knicks said Friday that Camby had an MRI which revealed a strained left plantar fascia. He was hurt Thursday in a loss at Indiana, a game Knicks coach Mike Woodson said was probably the best he’d seen the veteran play this season.
The 38-year-old Camby missed much of the early season with the injury, but had recently moved into the starting lineup at power forward for the short-handed Knicks. Woodson said the Knicks would start 40-year-old Kurt Thomas there Friday against Chicago.
Wizards guard Wall
cleared to make
debut today
WASHINGTON — The Washington Wizards say point guard John Wall has received “full medical clearance” and will make his season debut tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.
Wall completed his third straight day of practice with no setbacks Friday. He said he’s feeling no discomfort in his knee.
The former No. 1 overall pick has been sidelined since being diagnosed with a stress injury to his left kneecap in September.
Milton Bradley
charged in LA
with domestic abuse
LOS ANGELES — Former Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners outfielder Milton Bradley has been charged with abusing his estranged wife and faces up to 13 years in jail if convicted.
Los Angeles city prosecutors charged Bradley on Thursday with 13 misdemeanor counts, including assault with a deadly weapon.
Prosecutors contend he threatened and assaulted his wife at least five times in 2011 and last year. Bradley remains free pending a scheduled Jan. 24 arraignment.
Radwanska wins 2nd WTA title in a row
SYDNEY — Agnieszka Radwanska claimed back-to-back WTA titles by dispatching Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-0, 6-0 in the Sydney International final Friday.
In the men’s bracket, Kevin Anderson of South Africa beat Julien Benneteau of France 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8) in a match between players separated by a single ranking point to reach the men’s final.
He moved on to face Australia’s Bernard Tomic, who beat third-seeded Andreas Seppi 7-6 (8), 6-4 to reach his first ATP Tour final.
Vesnina reaches
final in Hobart
HOBART, Australia — Unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina defeated American teenager Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-2 to reach the Hobart International final against titleholder Mona Barthel on Friday.
Vesnina needed only 69 minutes to beat the 19-year-old Stephens and reach her seventh WTA final.
Barthel, of Germany, beat Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
Vesnina’s last final was in Budapest last year when she upset three seeded players on the way to a close loss against Italian Sara Errani.
