Senior softball tournament runs through Wednesday
The Mayor’s Cup Senior Softball Tournament, a fundraising event for the Hawaii Island United Way, begins today and runs through Wednesday at Kailua-Kona’s Old Kona Airport Park.
The round-robin tournament features two teams from New Mexico (Duke City Dynamite, Comedy Hour), two from the Big Island (Kona Scrap Iron, Hawaiian Pride 70’s) and one each from California (Red One) and Oahu (Hawaiian Masters), with a handful of players coming from as far as Guam and Michigan.
Games are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m, 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day.
Hawaii Kupuna Softball League players Danny Ayala (Hilo Pomaikai) and Martin Hauser (Kona Gold) will manage Hawaiian Pride 70’s and Kona Scrap Iron, respectively.
