Imiloa offers planetarium shows
Imiloa Astronomy Center’s “3-D Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe” planetarium program starts at 7 p.m. Friday. The live sky show “flies” participants into space on a tour of the universe. Friday’s topic is “Hitchhiking through the Solar System: A fresh look at our own backyard.”
Planetarium manager Shawn Laatsch will take the audience on a new and updated tour of planets, moons, asteroids, comets, dwarf planets and numerous other objects highlighting a number of discoveries about the sun’s family. Tickets are $10; $8 for members.
“Astronaut 3-D” premieres at 3 p.m. Saturday. The show created by the National Space Center takes the audience from Earth into space and beyond. Audience members experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut to explore the worlds of inner and outer space, from inside the human body to the International Space Station.
“Dark Side of the Moon,” where the classic Pink Floyd album is brought to life with a digital interpretation of the sounds and imagery of the album’s music, begins at 7 p.m. April 12. Tickets are $10; $8 for members.
Maunakea Skies is slated to begin at 7 p.m. April 19. At these talks, astronomers speak about recent discoveries and the science behind them. Tickets are $10; $8 for members.
The astronomy center also offers “Skies Above Hawaii” at noon, “Maunakea: Between Earth and Sky” at 1 p.m. and “Awesome Light II: Seeing the Invisible” at 2 p.m. daily. The astronomy center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Holocaust marked Sunday at Hilo event
The community is invited to participate in the Hilo Holocaust Remembrance Day service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the County Building in Hilo, 25 Aupuni St., No. 1401. Guest speaker Tana Basa will share some of her experiences as a Holocaust survivor.
Holocaust Remembrance Day has been set aside for remembering the victims of the Holocaust and for reminding Americans of what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and indifference reign. Congress established the Days of Remembrance as the nation’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust and created the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum as a permanent living memorial to the victims.

Hospital auxiliary raises $7,000
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary recently held its annual rummage sale. The group raised more than $7,000 to provide financial assistance to qualified students to further their education in nursing. For scholarship information, visit kchauxiliary.org.
An auxiliary board meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in the hospital conference room.
The organization holds regular bake sales from 7 to 9 a.m. Fridays in the hospital cafeteria.
