Cinco de Mayo Splash held Saturday
The Cinco de Mayo Splash will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at Anaehoomalu Bay.
The one-mile swim is a benefit for County of Hawaii lifeguards and the multiple sclerosis charity ride. Festivities include free drawings, post-race awards ceremony and refreshments and finisher gifts (while supplies last). Race entries are available at Bike Works Kona on Luhia Street and Bike Works Beach & Sports in the Queens’ MarketPlace, Waikoloa Beach Resort. Race day registration opens at 6:30 a.m.

Kona Sailing Club Cinco de Mayo race Sunday
The last race of the spring Kona Sailing Club race series will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Skippers need to register at the Kona Sailing Club on the north side of Honokohau Harbor at 9:30 a.m. The entry fee is $15 per boat, and there will be two mono-hull and one multi-hull fleet. The potluck social which follows the race at approximately 3:30 p.m. will have a Cinco de Mayo theme.

Konawaena golf dinner Sunday at Rosa’s
Konawaena High will hold a fundraiser taco dinner for its state tournament golf team from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rosa’s Cantina & Sunset Grill on Alii Drive.
Advance tickets are $10. There will also be prizes, entertainment and a silent auction.

Waimea Parks and Recreation softball tourney this weekend
Teams may register for a Waimea Hawaii County Parks and Recreation coed softball tournament scheduled for Friday through Sunday at Waimea Park.
The entry fee is $200, and participation is limited to 12 teams. The tournament will benefit athletics in Waimea’s Parks and Recreation division.

Phenom 150 camps Friday through Sunday
The Phenom 150 Hawaii Regional for high school level boys and girls, grades 9-12, is slated for Friday through Sunday at the St. Francis Schools gymnasium on Oahu.
The registration fee is $199, and each player will receive an Adidas Phenom uniform, four game guarantees, several hours of skill development and informative breakout sessions.
The Regional Camp concept is used around the country by Phenom Basketball to identify players to attend their national camps in the summer. All eligible players must attend a regional camp for evaluation and qualification for an invitation to Nationals. Nationals are well attended by many college-level coaches. The camps are intense, informative and competitive to bring out the best in every participant to showcase their skills and talent.

Kohala seeks volleyball, basketball coaches
Kohala High School is currently seeking applicants for head girls volleyball coach and head girls varsity basketball coach for the 2013-2014 seasons.
Interested persons may pick up and submit an application at the main high school office. Deadline to apply is May 8.
Hawaii Cycling Club time trial May 11
HCC will hold the Upolu Airport training time trial on May 11. The time trial starts at Maluokalani Street in Kawaihae and finishes 16 miles north at the Upolu Airport Road sign.
Registration will be on Maluokalani Street from 7 to 7:40 a.m.. The prerace meeting will be at 7:50 a.m. near the start line. The talk story/aid station will be directly across the road from the finish line.

College-prep hoops camp June 3-7
Hawaii Island Hoops will hold its college-prep basketball camp June 3-7 at the Kekuaokalani Gym. Registration is ongoing. The camp includes Nike SPARQ Training, daily fundamental training workouts, shooting clinics, defensive breakdowns, team offense, individual skills competitions, team tournament and championship game. There will also be a 3-point shootout, free-throw and slam dunk contests, all-star games and awards ceremony.
The camp is open to boys ages 13-19 who are looking to improve their skills and learn a college-style program. The registration fee is $350 and includes instruction from NCAA, NAIA and junior college players and coaches, and evening college-prep seminars on academic requirements, financial aid and athletic recruitment. All meals are included in the registration fee.

Beginner golf
classes for women
Golf professional Rob Wohlgemuth will offer a five-week series of beginner golf lessons for women at Makalei Golf Club beginning May 18.
The classes are open to all women interested in the basics of golf. Classes meet five consecutive Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m.

Big Island speed camp June 6-7
Joshua Abner, the track and field and cross-country coach at Honokaa High, and Rick Hagedorn of Speedburners will host the Big Island Speed Clinic at Konawaena High June 6 and 7.
The clinic will begin at 10 a.m. both days, with clinic-day registration at 9 a.m. June 6.
The cost of the clinic is $100 for both days. Runners who register before May 10 receive a $10 discount.

HIBT fishes
for volunteers
The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is looking for more than 50 volunteers to help with the running of the 54th annual tournament. A variety of tournament support is needed, including Kailua Pier operations, HIBT retail store, administration and a whole lot more. Each volunteer will receive a HIBT T-shirt and discounted parking for shift volunteers. Positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
HIBT event headquarters, retail and tournament control will once again be anchored at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, located adjacent to Kailua Pier. Tournament volunteers are needed from July 21 through August 13.
