Innovations students study birds

Kindergarten and first-graders at Innovations Public Charter School are studying birds as their final interdisciplinary unit of study for the school year. Students demonstrated their knowledge of birds, flight and community with a performing arts exhibit and an original story of their class pet, Uncle Feathers. In the story, the class parakeet escapes and flies into the campus mango tree where he gets lost and confused about his location. Feathered friends including penguins, robins, ducks and a few mischievous vultures help Uncle Feathers figure out how to get back to the children and learning he misses.

The Innovations’ middle school band and choral groups also provided musical accompaniment and vocal background when kindergarten and first-graders performed songs such as “Rockin’ Robin” and “Be Like a Duck.”
