Imiloa presentation ‘untwinkles’ the stars
Astronomer Mark Chun, of the University of Hawaii’s Institute for Astronomy, will lead a Maunakea Skies program at 7 p.m. Friday at Imiloa Astronomy Center. Chun will discuss how astronomers “take the twinkle out of stars.”
In the past two decades, new techniques and instruments have made their way to ground-based telescopes. These advances bring opportunities to explore regions of space previously beyond human sight. Chun will explain how current systems work and discuss some of the new systems envisioned for telescopes on Mauna Kea.
Host and planetarium manager Shawn Laatsch will provide observational highlights of the current night sky over Hawaii, pointing out prominent constellations and stars one can see during this time of year.
Admission is $10 for nonmembers; members pay a reduced rate. Tickets are available at the front desk or by calling 969-9703. For more information, visit imiloahawaii.org.
