HONOLULU — Gov. Neil Abercrombie is reviewing about 200 bills passed by the state Legislature and said his list of possible vetoes is likely to be short.
Abercrombie told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that he won’t wait until the last minute to veto measures.
“I’m working as fast as I can on all that stuff,” Abercrombie said. “I’m not trying to create drama — we’ll move as quick as we can.”
Abercrombie faces a July 10 deadline to veto bills. He must notify legislators which bills he may veto 10 working days before the July deadline.
The governor vetoed 17 bills in 2011 and 19 last year.
Among measures under review are bills adding campaign reporting requirements for political action committees and making changes in the medical marijuana program.
Abercrombie said he’s not been lobbied hard on any bill, he’s working with his departments to review proposals.
Abercrombie is also considering bills to increase the maximum age for people in the foster care system, remove limits on itemized deductions for charitable donations and establish new penalties for crimes of soliciting a minor for prostitution.
