The Hawaii Forest Industry Association and the Hawaii Wood guild are sponsoring a presentation by master craftsman Paul Schurch from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Tai Lake’s woodshop, 76-5823 Mamalahoa Highway in Holualoa. The lecture is part of the annual Hawaii WoodShow’s artist education tour.
Schurch owns a small, custom woodworking shop specializing in marquetry, which produces up to 20 pieces of furniture per year. He has taught furniture making, veneer work and marquetry since 1979, and is dedicated to passing on the knowledge he has received from European masters.
Schurch studies and preserves the dying art of traditional furniture construction, marquetry and pietra dure, which combines wood with stone inlay. For more about Schurch, visit schurchwoodwork.com.
