‘Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ auditions Sunday, Monday
Aloha Performing Arts Company guest director Roxanne Fox is holding auditions for Barbara Robinson’s holiday comedy “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. An invitational callback will be held Tuesday, if necessary.
A large cast is needed, including four males ages 20 to 50, six females ages 20 to 50, eight boys ages 8 to 13 and nine girls ages 5 to 12. Extra choir members, baby angels and shepherds may also be cast.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” features a family of hoodlums who attend Sunday school for the snacks and end up with leading roles in the annual Christmas pageant. Production dates are Dec. 6 through 22. Rehearsals are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons until Nov. 15, when Monday evening rehearsals are added to the schedule.
Auditions consist of readings from the script, which is available for perusal by arrangement with Suzanne Murdock. All ages and experience levels are welcome. For more information, call 322-9924.
‘Junk’ needed by
artist collaboration
The third annual Hawaii Artists Collaboration needs junk.
The Holualoa event, held Oct. 21 to 24, will feature more than 30 artists using junk, castaways and other items to create art. With that in mind, the collaboration is asking Big Island residents to donate any cool, retro or unused items such as old tools, gears, bikes and wheels.
Pickup is available for items within West Hawaii. Items may also be dropped off at Tai Lake’s studio in Holualoa or at Discovery Antiques in Kealakekua, which can be reached at 323-2239.
Blues, dance coming
to Kahilu Theatre
Grammy Award-winning blues musician Keb Mo will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. The singer, guitarist and songwriter has been described as “a living link to the seminal Delta blues that traveled up the Mississippi River and across the expanse of America.” His post-modern style is influenced by many eras and genres, including folk, rock, jazz and pop. Admission is $20, $34, $44 or $64, with discounts for theater members.
Also, “YANKADY, Here is Good?” — an original work choreographed by dancer and musician Fara Tolno of Guinea, and written and directed by Tolno and Michal Anna Carrillo, will explore “First and Third World concepts” through the vehicle of dance. The Lavaroots Dance Company and Tolno will perform, with special guest artists Naby Bangoura, Sekou Camara, Shizuno Nasu and David Chapman. Shows are slated at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 and 2 p.m. Oct. 20. Tickets are $20, $25, $35 and $45, with discounts for Kahilu Theatre members. Two school shows are planned for Oct. 21.
