Hilo Bayfront Highway remains closed

Hilo Bayfront Highway remains closed Tuesday because of debris on the roadway kicked up by high surf, according to the Hawaii County Police Department.

An increase is wave height is expected this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu. Forecasters said a high surf warning will go into effect at 6 p.m. today for north- and east-facing shores.

Police said the highway will remain closed until further notice.
