High surf advisory in effect

A high surf advisory remains in effect for Hawaii Island’s east-facing shores until 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

Forecasters are calling for waves ranging in height from 6 to 8 feet along east-facing shores of the island’s northern, eastern and southern coasts.

The service categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning of strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that make swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
