COLUMBUS, Ohio — Vancouver won 1-0 at Columbus on Saturday on a day that away teams dominated in Major League Soccer, with four of the five games won by the visiting team.
The Whitecaps (4-2-4) have two wins and two draw in their past four games and won on the road for the first time this season. The Canadian club is now just a point off second place in the Western Conference.
Erik Hurtado scored his first MLS goal in the 37th minute with a rising shot to the upper left corner after getting on the end of a long kick forward by goalkeeper pass from David Ousted.
Columbus was kept goalless for the third time in seven days and has only three points from its past seven games to slide down to mid-table in the East.

San Jose was the only team to buck the trend of away victories as he beat Dallas despite playing half the game with 10 men.
Cordell Cato score his first goal of the season to put the Earthquakes ahead in the 25th minute but they went a man down when Shea Salinas was shown a straight red card for a studs-up tackle on Zach Lloyd just before halftime.
San Jose doubled its lead in the 73rd minute thanks to an own goal by Dallas substitute David Teixeira.
Dallas slid to its fourth straight loss despite a stinging 20-yard free-kick goal by Michel in the 76th minute.
NEW YORK 4, CHICAGO 5
Chicago’s rookie midfielder Harry Shipp and New York’s Bradley Wright-Phillips both scored hat tricks in a scoring bonanza as the Fire finally broke through for its first win of the season.
Shipp gave Chicago the lead in the fourth minute and then added goals in the 54th and 58th minutes to give the Fire an overdue victory following six draws and two losses.
They withstood a late surge to end New York’s four-game unbeaten streak.
Bradley Wright-Phillips helped New York come back from a 5-2 deficit in the second half. He has eight goals from his past four games.
MONTREAL 0, SPORTING KANSAS CITY 3
Sporting Kansas City remained three points clear atop the East after a convincing victory at ten-man Montreal.
Dom Dwyer scored in the 18th minute to give Sporting the lead after Montreal’s Collen Warner was sent off for handball in the penalty area.
Paulo Nagamura also scored for Kansas City in the first half, before Dwyer added his second of the game midway through the second half.
PHILADELPHIA 0, D.C. UNITED 1
Chris Rolfe scored in the sixth minute to give D.C. United a win at Philadelphia.
Rolfe has 50 career regular-season goals.
The Union lost for the first time at home this season.

SAO PAULO — Brazilian organizers have held test events at two of the problematic World Cup stadiums, including the one hosting the tournaments opening game next month in Sao Paulo.
Nearly 20,000 people attended Saturday’s exhibition between past and present Corinthians players at the Itaquerao stadium, which remains under construction and will not hold a full test event until next weekend.
In the southern city of Porto Alegre, about 35,000 Internacional fans saw their team beat Atletico Paranaense 2-1 in a Brazilian league match at the Beira-Rio Stadium. It was the last test event at the venue hosting five World Cup matches.
FIFA said recently the Itaquerao and the Beira-Rio, where construction of temporary structures is delayed, were among the stadiums still causing concern, along with the one in Curitiba.
