Raymond Haleua

Raymond Kua “Hyman” Haleua, 88, of Hilo died Nov. 30, 2014, at his residence. Born July 8, 1926, in Honolulu, he was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a veteran in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army.

Friends may call from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea St. in Honolulu for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests aloha attire be worn. Burial will follow at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park at 47-200 Kahekili Highway, Kaneohe, Oahu.

He is survived by son, Tali Haleua of Utah; daughters, Hokulani Pritchett of Utah, Tanya Haleua of Texas; hanai son, Ronald (Noni) Sanford of Hilo; sister, Julia (Frank) Ascobido of Waianae, Oahu; cousin, Samuel Ho Chee of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Masako Kuwaye

Masako Kuwaye, 94, of Hilo died Nov. 4, 2014, at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif. Born March 13, 1920, in Honokaa, she was a homemaker and member of The Church of the Holy Cross, University Extension Club and Nohea Street Kumiai.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 12 at The Church of the Holy Cross, 440 W. Lanikaula St. in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

She is survived by daughter, Elaine (Allan) Yin of Costa Mesa, Calif.; son, Allan (Amy) Kuwaye of Hilo; brother, Edmund (Eleanor) Kuwaye of Stockton, Calif.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Ellen Harano

Ellen Tamaki Harano, 87, of Kealakekua died Nov. 4, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 10, 1927, in Fukuoka, Japan, she was a housewife and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Kingsley Kumiai.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Dec. 13 at Kona Hongwanji for a 4 p.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Nelson Harano of Snohomish, Wash., Melvin (Akemi) Harano of Honolulu; brother, Fukumi (Sadako) Tanaka, stepbrothers Iwai (Mitsuko) Tanaka, Takao (Yoshiko) Tanaka, stepsister Mariko Ishibashi of Japan; one grandson.

Raedene Lorenz

Raedene E. Lorenz, 52, of Hakalau died Nov. 12, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 26, 1961, in Baltimore, Md.; she was a human resource manager for Life Care Center of Hilo and a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Waiakea Congregation.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 3:30 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Victor Lorenz Sr. of Hakalau; sons, Victor Germano of California and Rocky Lorenz of Hilo; daughters, Victoria (Kamuela) Foster of Hilo and Velvet (Elijah) Young of Hawaii; five grandchildren; brothers, Richard Hayes, Randy Hayes, Ronald Hayes, Mark Hayes and Robin (Lorraine) Hayes, all of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Juanita Ansagay Miguel, 86, of Honokaa died Oct. 30, 2014, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born July 25, 1928, in Waialua, Oahu, she was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses from Honokaa Ilocano Congregation.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Honokaa Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation Hall for a service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Victor Miguel, Jose Jr. (Leslie) Miguel of Honokaa; daughters, Estrella Miguel (Benjamin Fernandez) and Norma Miguel (Max Ventura) of Honokaa, Aurora Miguel Barrios of Hilo and Lydia (Robert) Smith of Kauai; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mildred “Millie” Morante, 79, of Keaau died Nov. 15, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 2, 1935, in Kapoho, she worked at numerous places including Mauna Loa Macademia Nut Corp., Pahoa Anthuruims and Floral Resource. She also was a member of the New Hope East Hawaii Church in Keaau.

Lagrimas M. “Lagring” Narciso, 85, of Keaau died Nov. 14, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 12, 1929, in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp.

Julia Kekinookalani Waechtler, 92, of Hilo died Oct. 24, 2014, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired head forelady with Castle &Cooke Dole Pineapple Cannery on Oahu.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 13 at Borthwick Mortuary chapel in Honolulu for an 11 a.m. service, followed by burial at the Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Samuel Kalama (Myrtle) Waechtler of Kaneohe, Oahu, daughter, Henrilene Pickens of Hilo; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

James Hunt

James “Jim” Roderick Hunt, 69, of Kukuihaele died Nov. 14, 2014, at his residence. Born Aug. 3, 1945, in Portland, Ore., he was a retired teacher from Honokaa High School and the owner of Hamakua Hideaway Treehouse in Kukuihaele.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center in Honokaa for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers. Donations may be sent to North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, HI 96743.

He is survived by sons, Jaimes (Kimberly) Hunt, Deva (Maile Buck) Hunt, all of Kukuihaele, Bryan (Rochelle) Hunt of Honokaa; brother, Russell Hunt; sister, Marcie (Tom) Dinkle, all of California; five grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.

Herbert Oue

Herbert Kenso Oue, 89, of Kealakekua died Oct. 12, 2014, at his residence. Born June 20, 1925, in Kealakekua, he retired as factory manager for K. Oue Ltd., was a member of Kanaueue Kumiai and a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean conflict.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary offerings.

He is survived by brothers, Tatsumi Oue of Kealakekua and Francis (Claire) Oue of Keauhou; sister, Patricia Oue of Kealakekua; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherry Hare

Sherry Roxanne Hare, 54, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 18, 2014 at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 24, 1960, in Honolulu, she was a caregiver.

A private service will be held in Honolulu.

She is survived by sisters, Katherine Hare of Kailua-Kona, Barbara (Ivan) DeLeon of Texas; brothers, Michael (Carla) Hare, Bob Hare, Richard (Shelly) Hare all of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose Becker

Rose Ellen Marie Becker, 57, of Ocean View died Nov. 16, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 20, 1957, in Renton, Wash., she was a caregiver for Care Resource and member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by son, Mark (Brianna) Beck of Captain Cook; daughters, Allisa (Tom) Carter and Elizabeth Beck, all of Indiana, Mariah Beck of Ocean View; brothers, Michael (Iman) Popejoy of New Jersey, David (Michelle) Popejoy of Indiana; sisters, Jeannie (Dennis) Vondersaar and Julie Carlson, all of Indiana, Laura Ann Popejoy of Florida; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Misae Y. Miyasaki, 83, of Hilo died Nov. 13, 2014, at her home. Born June 26, 1931, in Kukaiau, she was a homemaker and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, and Kamana Senior Center line dancing group.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Leilyn (Lyle) Kauihou of Honolulu, LeeAnn (Tad) Ishihara, Lyndie (Robert) Michioka, both of Hilo; son, Ernie (Ashlee) Miyasaki of Hilo; brother, Shiro (Yoshiko) Yamada of Honolulu; sister, Michie (Stanford) Kanehiro of Honolulu; eight grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris Araki

Doris Kameko Araki, 100, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 9, 2014, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Nov. 25, 1913, in Pahala, she was a retired room maid at the former Kona Surf Hotel.
