Man dies in vehicle crash on Maui highway

HONOLULU — Authorities say a 19-year-old Maui man has died after losing control of his vehicle on a highway.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper reports Jose Vasquez Jr. of Pukalani was pronounced dead at the scene of the rollover crash Monday night on the Old Haleakala Highway.

According to authorities, a 22-year-old passenger in the multipurpose vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Police say Vasquez was not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was wearing one.
