KAILUA-KONA — A Kona District Court judge declined to reduce bail for a 32-year-old Kailua-Kona woman facing more than a dozen charges after being found in a stolen truck on July 4.
Judge Margaret Masunaga maintained bail for Ashley K. Pagan at $111,000 after a public defender requested via motion to reduce bail to just $20,000, according to court records. She remains in custody following her initial appearance in court on Thursday.
Masunaga also set a preliminary hearing for Pagan for Monday afternoon. During the hearing, the state will work to show it has sufficient evidence to support the 13 charges filed against Pagan.
Police say they found Pagan on July 4 in a 2006 Nissan Frontier pickup truck that had been removed from a Hulikoa Drive business earlier that day or the day prior.
Police then arrested Pagan for violating terms of probation and took her to the Kona police cellblock while the investigation continued. Police say officers recovered a smoking pipe with methamphetamine residue from Pagan’s possession and mail belonging to other persons from the truck.
She was charged Wednesday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, third-degree promoting a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree theft and eight counts of unauthorized possession of personal information. Her bail on all counts, including the probation violation, was set at $116,000.
The $116,000 bail amount reported by police included $5,000 bail for the probation violation, which was not part of the case before Masunaga on Thursday.
