KAILUA-KONA — Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasters are monitoring two areas of disturbed weather southeast of the Big Island.
Showers and thunderstorms located about 900 miles southeast of Hilo remained disorganized Tuesday morning. However, forecasters expect environmental conditions to be favorable for some development of the system, which has a 50-50 chance of becoming a tropical cyclone with the next couple of days.
Closer to the Big Island, showers and thunderstorms located approximately 800 miles southeast of Hilo have increased. Environmental conditions are marginally conducive for development over the next couple of days, however, in the long-term, the chances for development are not as favorable because the area of low pressure is expected to interact with another area of low pressure to the east.
Elsewhere in the Central Pacific, which is where Hawaii is located, no tropical cyclones are expected to form within the next five days. In addition, no tropical cyclone formation is forecast in the Eastern Pacific.
