Florendo Ventura dela Cruz, 67, of Keaau, died Jan. 24 at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama facility. Born on July 15, 1950, in Laoag City, Philippines, he was a macadamia nut picker.

Albert Pung

Albert Ernest Fook On Pung, 88, of Hilo, died Jan. 13 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 13, 1930 in Hilo, he was a retired chief warrant officer for the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Visitation will be held 2-3 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; celebration of life at 3 p.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise Ahuna Pung of Hilo; son, Crist (Odetta) Pung of Hilo; grandchildren, Shayne (Palani) Pung of Hilo and Jennifer Pung of Chico, Calif.; hanai daughter, Noriko (Masa) Kinoshita of Tokyo, Japan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jennie Anderson

Jennie L.K. Anderson, 78, of Waimea, died Jan. 14 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in North Kohala on Oct. 26, 1941, she was a retired bus operator for Oahu Transit Services.

A celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at Kahua Ranch at 59-564 Kohala Mountain Road, Kohala. Additional services will be held on Oahu on March 1 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kaneohe with visitation at 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church at 10:30 a.m. March 2; mass at noon; burial at 2 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ellen Chiyoko Minaai Nakagawa, 91, of Hilo, died Dec. 31, 2017, in the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo, Hawaii. Born in Hilo on June 15, 1926, she was a retired elementary school teacher, co-owner of The Seaside Restaurant and Aqua Farm in Hilo, and member of Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple.

Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo on Feb. 24, 2:30-4 p.m.; memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by her husband, Susumu Nakagawa of Hilo; daughters, Cheryl (Wilbert Low) Nakagawa of Hilo and Linda (Mark) Laughlin of Portland, Ore.; sons, Colin (Sharon Beauchan) Nakagawa of Hilo and Kris (Janna) Nakagawa of Honolulu; sister, Ella Fujie of Hilo; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Debbie Waters, 55, of Glenwood, died Dec. 31, 2017, at home. She was born in Hilo.

Herman Naha Ludloff Jr., 94, of Hilo, died Jan. 19. Born on March 25, 1923, he served in U.S. Army and was a retired chief executive for Hawaii Telephone Company and was a member of the Hawaiian Golf Club.
