Several precincts reporting in primary election races

KAILUA-KONA — With 246 of the 249 precincts reporting, Gov. David Ige captured 118,222 votes over his opponent Colleen Hanabusa’s 101,896 votes. As of 11 p.m. Saturday, Ige was declared winner in the Democratic primary for governor.

For governor on the Republican ticket, Andria Tupola is leading with 16,066. John Carroll comes in second at 10,162 and Ray L’Heureux with 2,626 votes.

In the race for lieutenant governor on the Democratic ticket, Josh Green is leading his opponents with 71,088 votes. Jill Tokuda follows in second with 64,499. Bernard P. Carvalho Jr. has 43,864 votes, Kim Coco Iwamoto has 32,010 votes and Will Espero has 14,605.

On the Republican ticket for lieutenant governor, Marissa Dipasupil Kerns passed opponent Steve Lipscomb with 9,115 votes. Lipscomb follows close with 8,751 and Jeremy Low garnered 7,670.

With 131 of the 134 precincts reporting officials are calling Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District race, naming U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as winner of the Democratic nomination. Gabbard leads with 91,086 votes over Sherry Alu Campagna’s 13,315 votes and Anthony Austin’s 4,496.

With nine of the 12 precincts reporting, Dru Kanuha continues his lead over Brenda Ford in the state Senate District 3 race. New results show 3,735 votes for Kanuha while 3,185 votes were cast for Ford.

All precincts reporting in the Senate District 4 race show Lorraine Inouye with 4,916 votes over opponent Heather Kimball with 4,034.

With seven of the eight precincts reporting for the state House District 5 representative race, incumbent Richard Creagan continues his commanding lead with 2,189 votes over his two opponents, Jeanne Kapela, who has 1,664, and Gene “Bucky” Leslie, who has 411.

At 9:30 p.m., Kapela conceded to Creagan.

With all five precincts reporting David Tarnas has defeated incumbent Cindy Evans the race in state House District 7. Tarnas has captured 2,866 over Evans’ 2,466.

For Hawaii County Council District 6, all eight precincts show Maile David received 3,019 votes over Yumi Kawano with 491 and Richard Abbett with 413 votes.

With two of the four precincts reporting in the council District 7 race, Rebecca Villegas is leading the race with 949 votes. She is followed by Kelly Drysdale with 790, Bronsten Kossow with 589 and Cynthia S. Nazara with 243 votes.

With all three precincts reporting in the council District 9 race, Tim Richards garnered 2,614 votes over Maya Parish with 2,217 votes.

The U.S. Senator race, Sen. Mazie Hirono is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket. On the Republican ticket, Ron Curtis is ahead with 5,845 votes. Consuelo Anderson follows with 4,818 votes.
