KAILUA-KONA — Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park said it will be reopening restrooms in the Aiopio Fishtrap area and providing trash collection in the park as the partial government shutdown continues.
Wednesday’s announcement follows a similar one from the weekend regarding the resumption of basic visitors services at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park.
The National Park Service said it can use Federal Land and Recreation Enhancement funds to immediately bring back park maintenance crews to clean restrooms and remove trash.
While outdoor areas of Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park will remain accessible, gates to the visitor center and Kaloko Fishpond will remain closed. Most facilities will also remain closed.
Other services, including visitor centers, ranger talks and programs, may be limited or unavailable as the shutdown continues, according to the statement from the National Park Service.
