PTA to open training area for mammal hunting

KAILUA-KONA — Pohakuloa Training Area will open for a two-day mammal hunt later this month.

The U.S. Army is offering the hunt for local hunters from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 and 24 in the Ahi hunting area (training areas 9, 12-16).

Bird permits are $25, and general hunting permits are $40 (which includes mammal and bird) and are available at On the website, hunters can find more information regarding the schedule, fees, maps, regulations and more.
