Hawaii joins states suing Trump over emergency wall declaration

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California, Hawaii and 14 other states filed a lawsuit Monday against President Donald Trump’s emergency declaration to fund a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra released a statement Monday saying the suit alleges the Trump administration’s action violates the Constitution.

“President Trump treats the rule of law with utter contempt,” Becerra said. “He knows there is no border crisis, he knows his emergency declaration is unwarranted, and he admits that he will likely lose this case in court.”

Joining California in filing the lawsuit are the attorneys general of Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Virginia.

Trump declared a national emergency to fulfill his promise of completing the wall.

The move allows the president to bypass Congress to use money from the Pentagon and other budgets.

California has repeatedly challenged Trump in court.

“President Trump is manufacturing a crisis and declaring a made-up ‘national emergency’ in order to seize power and undermine the Constitution,” said California Gov. Gavin Newsom in a statement. “This ‘emergency’ is a national disgrace.”

How many times did Obama take “Executive Action”? Remember, Obama said
“all I need is a phone and a pen”. He did this 17 times to be exact.
Where was the esteemed Xavier Becerra then?
Was he claiming “President Obama treats the rule of law with utter contempt,” No!
Now, when the shoe is on the other foot they all feign outrage.
The Constitution clearly gives President Trump the discretion to call
something as important as our border is to our national security “a
crisis” and declare a national emergency in order to do what he placed
his hand on the Bible and swore to do.
As many people die each year (70,000) just from illegal drugs entering through the
porous southern border as soldiers died in the entire Vietnam war. There is no debate
about this. Yet where is the outrage to stop it, Mr. Becerra? Thousands
of human slaves are brought into this country every month. There is no
debate about this. Yet where is outrage to stop it, Mr. Becerra?
Forget about the illegal entrants, a good percentage of which are gang
members, criminals in their country of origin, and coming here with the
intent to commit further crimes and then run back across the border.
Mr Becerra and his ilk, have no intention of protecting the way of life in
the U.S., but instead will do everything possible to bring this country
down, for no other reason than political control.

Very good comment! Democrats are plain evil! Everything they do is to destroy this country. They work hand in hand with the other communists from China and Venezuela.

Another GIANT waste of our taxpayers money. People just think of what could be done with all this money our State wastes doing this! How about helping the school system? Attracting industries to create jobs. Playing the self righteous protector of the universe and hating a guy in the White House to make yourself look better is a bad selfish look. Take care of our people first and then and only then if there is left overs we can help others. It just makes the people of this state and country look stupid. Every other country takes care of their people first.

Democrats suffer from TDS (Trump derangement syndrome). That is the only logical explanation for their actions. In other words they are sick minded.

The State of Hawaii is protected by the vast, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean. The mainland of the United States has only the shallow waters of the Rio Grande River to protect it from invasion from the south on the Texas-Mexico Border and most of the rest of the border has only a low fence or no fence at all. People entering the US illegally can easily wade across the Rio Grande in many places and climb over the fence in CA, AZ, and NM. The illegal migrants are coming across the border by the hundreds of thousands every year, many of them smuggling harmful, illegal drugs. Does the Attorney General of Hawaii have any idea how dangerous it is to have an open border? Why would he want to leave our nation so exposed to invasion and terrorist infiltration? He is wrong to oppose the construction of America’s southern border wall. Very wrong.

Trump did NOT admit that he will lose this in court, and West Hawaii Today posted that incorrect quote, to try and mislead it’s readers. What Trump said was that he will likely lose in the 9th Circuit Court, and that then it will go on to the Supreme Court, where he has a real chance of winning. WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT of fighting a lawsuit that you EXPECT to lose??? EVERYONE KNOWS that Democrats shop their anti-Trump lawsuits to the 9th Circuit Court, and they do it because they almost always win there. And everyone SHOULD KNOW that the 9th Circuit is the most overturned court in the U.S. There is an excellent chance that Trump will win, because Hawaii has no standing in this case, Hawaii is NOT HARMED ONE BIT BY THIS ATTEMPTED BORDER WALL. Hawaii is once again wasting it’s money and time on an anti-Trump lawsuit, like it did in challenging Trump’s so-called, “Muslim ban”, which NEVER EVEN EXISTED, and Hawaii lost that case too. Hawaii is run by FOOLS.

Hawaii politicians building their careers on the taxpayers money!!!… They don’t care about the people. They care only to stay in power and steal as much as they can, the people of Hawaii be damed.

They want to bring more poor people in US to compete with the poor people of Hawaii in a race to the bottom – to lower their wages. The Democrat plantation owners care only to increase the number of slaves on the Democrat plantation.

Is there some reason the other 13 states already committed can’t handle funding and litigating this issue without Hawaii’s help? And is Trump threatening to build any walls here?

Maybe my neighborhood association should get in on the action too.

Just think if you had a family member that was killed by someone that was here illegally. That’s the people the president consols with. What do you want the president to say. Hey get over it it’s just a loved one. So what if they were tortured raped and burned alive. Deal with it we don’t want to make people feel unwanted…. And I know there’s many good people that want to come to USA. Get the paper work going to get here legally. We used to have a thing called LAWS.

I thought that after we got rid of the pencil necked pissant , Doug Chin , Hawaii would stop all it’s Lilliputian grandstanding , about things it has no standing at all in . Hawaii needs to butt out of national security issues that do not affect it . When will Hawaii wake up to the fact that morons like Chin and Hirono are making Hawaii look so bad and it is doing nothing to engender Federal support or sympathies to any of Hawaii’s real needs ? And I do not blame Trump a bit . Let Hawaii spin in the wind , until we start electing decent , responsible , moderate speaking individuals , instead of the nutcases that the nation perceives us as being ruled by these days . I for one wouldn’t mind seeing Federal marital law declared out here to rid ourselves of these entrenched ,despicable Democrat fools . Once and for all .

  8. reply to February 19, 2019 12:30 pm

Hawaii wasting taxpayers money for a law suit they know they will lose. Since when are the politicians concerned with wasting people’s money?

Then, they go and raise the excise taxes for the political adventures of the crooks who care less about the poor struggling in a race to the bottom with all the illegals pouring over our unprotected borders. How can the poor born in US and Hawaii get higher pay if the democrats facilitate more and more illegals to come and compete on crumbs?!… These democrats are plain evil!….They have the same mindset of their forefathers in KKK – more slaves on their plantation.

If the democrats would care about the environment and they would be green as they claim, they will fight for less population not more population to destroy our environment. But they don’t; they are hypocrites. They promote the “green deal” to place more taxes on the poor and lower their standard of living even further.

Hawaii has allied itself with the rebellious States in a futile attack on the Constitution. Time to vote the nepotistic, inept jerks out. Crazy and nasty Maisie Hirono embarrasses Hawaii every time she calls white people names. She was not even born here. No Aloha in her or in this jive lawsuit.

  12. KonaDude February 20, 2019 8:45 am

If Trump wants the wall he needs to spin it more like the Berlin Wall and say it’s not to keep bad people out but to keep socialism in(.Y.)
