“Hey, Marge, I just rode out to Palamanui Community College and back. You should see the parking and traffic problems developing there.”
“What do you mean, Tom?”
“Cars are driving off the pavement and parking on the shoulders of road, they do U-turns across the double line, not to mention I’ve been nearly hit by cars driving 60 while holding their phones on steering wheel texting on the way to class.”
“Well, Tom, maybe we should inform the Hawaii Department of Transportation because this is a safety issue.”
“Yeah, Marge. They could bring in some of those really cool looking World War II concrete barriers like they put on Queen Kaahumanu Highway blocking access to the lava tube last month. Oh, and add 11 no-parking signs on each side of road to help make it more attractive.”
“I don’t know if this is a good idea.”
“Why? It really adds to the attractive landscape and the beauty of this island.”
“I don’t think they will look at this the same way. You see, they said it was all in the name of safety.”
“All of a sudden after 20 years it was a safety issue? No way, something else is behind this.”
“I like to look at the glass half full, not half empty. For the same amount of money, the county could have made a parking turnout just like the one farther north on Queen Kaahumanu Highway, where you can take pictures, watch whales blow, and see Kiholo Bay.”
“No, that just makes too much sense.”

The Big Island Magic Club and the Society for Kona’s Arts and Education (SKEA) would like to thank everyone who contributed to making our 33rd annual Magic Spectacular a huge success.
This list includes the performers from our island and from Oahu; the magical guests from Los Angeles and Japan; the volunteers; the donors; Kristin Lagasse and Kathy Fraser for the wonderful musical interludes; the staff at the Aloha Theatre; and the members of the community who came out and filled the house.
The art of magic is alive and well on the island. Just wait till you see what we have in store for next year’s show.
