Watts receives scholarship

Emily Watts recently was awarded a scholarship by the Kona Ocean Center, a new nonprofit in Kailua-Kona.

The center, dedicated to helping students who are interested in our oceans and the marine life within, announced recently it presented Watts $500 toward her education at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Watts, a second-year student at UH-Hilo, wishes to become a conservation biologist.

KOC will be expanding its scholarship program next year to seek students in the Kona area who are interested in marine science.
