I wouldn’t have thought about it had it not been raised in the article regarding the “stern reminder issued” by the Board of Ethics to the County Council.
But in serving as the moral compass for the county, and issuing rulings on eithics, the Board of Ethics seemed to conveniently ignore the sunshine law by discussing matters in a private meeting.
If it weren’t such a sad commentary on institutional double standards, it would actually be funny.
Government, what would we do without it?!

Fact: We still
don’t favor TMT
The TMT separating fact from myth front page article on Aug. 18 covers a wide range of pre-construction agenda matters that draw serious concern in the Hawaii community.
Dynamite, drilling, oil spills, protected species, culturally significant architectural sites, jobs for people according to their science IT education, wastewater, and specialized construction. Further mentioned is military applications for targeting foreign satellites or missiles? Haphazardly, the telescopes are too slow to track incoming missiles?
“If we wanted to point TMT at an incoming missile, by the time we were pointed at it, it would be gone, it would be too late,” TMT’s vice president of external relations is quoted as saying.
People in Hawaii are not persuaded by the continual revisions to favor TMT’s thesis.
Let’s consider solutions for our land. Here are three simple values to consider:
1. Remove the existing telescope buildings.
2. If this process is too difficult to proceed, relinquish the buildings to the people who are protectors of Maunakea.
3. Act now! Clean up the summit of Maunakea.
