Family Caregivers conference Sept. 19
Hawaii Community Caregiver Network will host a Conference for Family Caregivers from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Sheraton Keauhou Spa &Resort, 78-128 Ehukai St. in Kailua-Kona.
Hawaii’s first female TV news reporter and anchor Linda Coble is the keynote speaker. Coble shares her story of life as colleague, wife and caregiver of former TV newsman Kirk Matthews, who died in 2016 from lung cancer.
The conference includes breakout sessions on active listening, advance directive/POLST, building social support, caregiving tips and more.
New AARP Hawaii State President Kealii Lopez will give an update on advocacy issues. Among the more unusual exhibitors at the resource fair are vendors providing iPods for the elderly, hemp oil, and death doula services.
Cost to attend the event is $30 which includes a light breakfast and buffet lunch.

Kona Bridge Club August winners
First place finishers for the ACBL Kona Bridge Club for the month of August are listed below. There are four players at each table, North and South are partners competing against the East and West partners for each bridge contract and are scored as such.
On Monday there are two sections competing separately (novice and advanced).
Kona Bridge Club hosts ACBL games on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays at 1 p.m. at the Makua Lani Academy.
