Chang named DBEDT deputy director
Gov. David Ige has appointed Chung I. Chang to serve as deputy director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT). Chang has most recently served as coordinator for DBEDT’s Office of Aerospace Development.
In addition, Chang was a bill researcher for the state Senate’s Ways and Means Committee, and senior business analyst, section supervisor and marketing coordinator at HMSA. He is also a small business owner/manager/consultant.
Chang is a member of the Space Policy Committee, Aerospace States Association, and The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Chang’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. His start date has not yet been determined.
If confirmed, Chang will replace Randall Tanaka who was appointed assistant superintendent for the Office of Facilities and Operations, Department of Education.
Entrepreneurs meet up Wednesday
Elemental Excelerator representatives will be the guest speakers for the Kona Entrepreneur Meetup Group on Wednesday.
Tiffany Huynh, director of external affairs, and Sherrie Totoki, director of accelerator operations, will speak about Elemental Excelerator and how to apply for up to $1 million in funding.
The meeting, a monthly HIplan and Small Business Development Center event, is free and open to the public. It is slated 5:30-7 p.m. at Pictures Plus, 75-1006 Henry St., in Kailua-Kona.
A similar meeting will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hawaii County Office of Aging in Hilo.
