A dozen drivers were arrested by Kona officers while Puna officers nabbed seven and South Hilo officers five, , according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in South Kohala and North Kohala arrested two motorists in each district while officers in Hamakua arrested one.
So far this year, there have been 198 DUI arrests compared with 195 during the same period last year, according to police. There have been 168 major accidents so far this year compared with 163 during the same period last year.
Six fatalities have been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Tuesday morning, police said. By this time in 2019, two people had perished.
