Ethel Griffith


Ethel Sadame Griffith, 82, of Hilo, died April 23, 2020, at Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in Hilo and was a homemaker.

Private services held.

She is survived by daughter, Kimberly (Xavier Aloiau) Griffith of Hilo; sisters, Ruth Heu of Honolulu and Judy (Robert) Kanno of Hilo; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Derek Fontes

Derek Shigeta Kaehukaioonealii Fontes, 38, of Pahala, died April 1, 2020, in Arizona. Born Sept. 15, 1981 in Honolulu, he worked on his family coffee farm.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by mother, Ann Misako Fontes of Pahala; daughter, Cherish Kailiawa of Pahala; granddaughter, Anelalani Quinn of Pahala; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Donald Goo

Donald Patrick Goo, 63, of Hilo, died May 6, 2020 at his residence. Born Jan. 20, 1957, in Hilo, he was a Houseman for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and a member of several hula halau and the Monday Night Mix Bowling League Team Dahla-Dahla.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. May 21 at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section for a service. Flowers and leis are welcomed.


He is survived by sisters, Geraldine (Ken) Kapono of Homeland, California and Paulette (Harvey) Goo-Haimoto of Kailua-Kona; aunts, Cecelia Goo of Houston, Texas, Jenne Vantilberg of North Hollywood, California and Florence Apa of Honolulu; nephews and nieces; numerous cousins.
