High surf advisory remains posted for Kona Coast

A large northwest swell is forecast to keep surf at advisory levels through this afternoon. Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said the large northwest swell will result in wave heights of 6 feet to 10 feet for west-facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 p.m. The surf is expected to primarily impact the Kona Coast. The forecasters also cautioned that the surf will coincide with this morning’s high tide bringing an increased risk of wave run-up and overwash along low-lying coastlines exposed to the swell. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution, the service said. (Tom Linder/West Hawaii Today)
