State health officials reported 27 new COVID-19 cases on the Big Island Friday, bringing Hawaii County’s total case tally to 3,425.
Statewide, 147 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 93 of those cases on Oahu, eight in Maui County and nine on Kauai. Twenty-two cases were among residents diagnosed out of state.
Since the end of last February, 38,966 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
The Big Island had a 4.1% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 2.9% positivity rate on Friday. Over the last 14 days, 149 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 14.9 cases per day.
One new coronavirus-related death was reported on Friday on Oahu. Of the 523 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 405 were on Oahu, 57 were on Maui, 56 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
Also Friday, Hawaii Community Correctional Center reported no new positive COVID-19 test results among inmates. With no new cases reported, the number of active staff cases held at one and active inmate cases at five. Since the start of the pandemic, 254 inmates and 25 staffers have tested positive for the coronavirus. There have been no deaths tied to the facility.
