Former mayor Harry Kim waves at cars passing by while holding a sign asking passersby to get vaccinated in front of the King Kamehameha I statue in Hilo on Monday, July 26, 2021. Kim decided to wave a sign after seeing COVID-19 cases continually spike in the county. "It's getting bad around here, so I thought I'd come out with a message," Kim said. "When you've lived here a long time, you know when it's time to get out and try to take care of the community." (Kelsey Walling/Hawaii Tribune-Herald)
