A 32-year-old Captain Cook man was indicted by a Kona Grand Jury Monday on 10 counts in connection to a hit-and-run crash last month in Kailua-Kona.
A 32-year-old Captain Cook man was indicted by a Kona Grand Jury Monday on 10 counts in connection to a hit-and-run crash last month in Kailua-Kona.
Donoven Pogtis was indicted on attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, reckless driving, duty to give information and render aid and accident involving bodily injury in connection with the July 25 incident.
According to police, three men, later identified as 32-year-old Donoven Pogtis, 19-year-old Landon Pogtis, and 20-year-old Todd Cabanlet, physically assaulted three victims, took the car the victims were in, and then returned to the scene and struck one of the victims with his own vehicle before striking another vehicle and a building, according to police. The victims were later identified as two 19-year-old men and a 29-year-old man.
The 29-year-old victim was transported by Hawaii Fire Department personnel to Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released. Neither of the 19-year-old victims was seriously injured.
Donoven Pogtis was subsequently charged by police and released on July 27 after posting $64,750 bail. A bench warrant was ordered on Thursday following the indictment for Pogtis. Bail was set at $100,000.
Cabanlet was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of third-degree assault . His total bail was set $1,500.
Landon Pogtis was released pending further investigation.
