Thirty-seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday on the Big Island, pushing the island’s total case count to 9,950.
Statewide, 230 new cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the state’s total to 78,874 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
According to the DOH, 5,388 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 829 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 319.6 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 51.4 cases per day.
Hawaii County Wednesday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 5.5%, still above the state’s 4.1% positivity rate.
On Wednesday, 20 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Three of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with five of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Four of the five COVID patients were on a ventilator.
Thirteen new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Wednesday; including two on Maui, two on the Big Island and nine on Oahu. Of the 770 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 582 were on Oahu, 87 were on Maui, 88 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
