Twenty-nine new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday on the Big Island, bringing the total case count to 10,713 since late February 2020.
Statewide, 117 new cases were reported by health officials on Monday, bringing the statewide case count to 82,511, according to the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.
According to HI-EMA, 1,991 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 446 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 115 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 39.1 cases per day.
Hawaii County’s seven-day test positivity rate was 3.4% Monday, well above the state’s 1.1% positivity rate.
On Wednesday, eight people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Six of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with one of the beds occupied by a COVID-positive patient. That patient was also on a ventilator.
Four new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state on Monday, all on Oahu. Of the 876 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 658 were on Oahu, 92 were on Maui, 112 were on the Big Island and nine on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
Meanwhile Monday, the state reported 66% of Big Island residents — or more than 130,350 people — were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Some 78% has received at least one dose.
Statewide, 70.2% of the population was fully vaccinated.
According to the Department of Health, more than 2.11 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Hawaii, including more than 58,400 booster doses. An estimated 423,369 individuals are either unvaccinated or have not yet completed the inoculation process.
