Libraries to observe Presidents’ Day holiday
In state observance of Presidents’ Day, all public libraries and library support offices will be closed on February 19-21. The Hawaii State Public Library Sysetm’s digital doors are always open at librarieshawaii.org. With just a library card you can download ebooks, stream movies, learn a language, read The New York Times and more.
AAUW-Kona offering scholarships
The American Association of University Women (AAUW-Kona) will award three scholarships of $2,000 each this spring to exceptional female high school seniors who will be attending a two- or four-year college/university, and have financial need, and live in West Hawaii.
Criteria for choosing scholarship recipients are academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular high school activities, community organizations and/or employment experience, educational and career goals, and financial need.
A written essay, resume and completed application are required with supporting documents.
In addition, two $1,000 scholarships will be offered for women at Hawaii Community College — Palamanui. These scholarships are available to high school graduates, and also to those women who have have been in the workplace, or are returning to school this fall.
Applications for college/university scholarships or Palamanui may be obtained from high school counselors, Palamanui counselors and online at http://kona-hi.aauw.net. Both kinds of applications must be postmarked by April 1.
