Police seek donations of new backpacks for keiki in need

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, the Hawaii Police Department is participating once again in an islandwide backpack drive for keiki in need. New and unused backpacks may be dropped off at any Hawaii Island police station now through July 31.

Hawaii Island police, in partnership with Hope Services Hawaii, have been collecting school backpacks for children who cannot afford them since 2008. Backpacks are the most requested non-food item by charities in Hawaii. The donated backpacks will be distributed to children at women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and transitional housing facilities around the island.
