Volunteer, off-duty law enforcement officers across the state will once again rise to the occasion to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Hawaii this weekend.

On Hawaii Island, Hawaii Police Department officers will be perched on scaffolds at the Kailua-Kona and Hilo Walmarts from 7 a.m. Thursday through 3 p.m. Saturday.

“This year, Cop on Top celebrates a milestone two decades of supporting our Special Olympics Hawaii athletes,” said Special Olympics Hawaii President and CEO Dan Epstein. “We invite the public to come out and show their support for these dedicated officers who generously give of their free time to raise funds and awareness for our programs.”

Donations collected from Cop on Top directly benefit Special Olympics Hawaii and its work to provide sports, health and wellness programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round. Since 2001, Cop on Top has raised more than $3,827,793 for Special Olympics Hawaii athletes statewide.

“Special Olympics Hawaii holds a special place in the hearts of our volunteer officers,” said Honolulu Police Department’s Assistant Chief, Ryan Nishibun. “Donating our time for Cop on Top is one small way that we can show our support and solidarity with these amazing and inspiring individuals.”
