Allan Okuda
Allan Koichi Okuda, 73, of Hilo, died Nov. 25, 2022 in the Tripler Army Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Hilo on Dec. 12, 1948, he retired from Hawaii Community College in Hilo as a culinary arts professor, formerly worked as an executive chef at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, Hilo Lagoon and Kona Lagoon Hotels, was the co-owner of the former Kay’s Lunch Center restaurant in Hilo, and a U.S. Army veteran. Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo on Jan. 4 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is requested. No koden (monetary offerings). He is survived by wife, Kay Okuda of Hilo; sons, Corey (Agatha) Okuda of Fairfield, California, Jamie (Erin Tokuuke) Okuda of Hilo and Aric Okuda of Hilo; daughter, Hana Jung-Okuda of Honolulu; brother, Roy Okuda of San Jose, California; sister, Diane Kawamoto of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Gloria Mendoza-Watson
Gloria Datuin Mendoza-Watson, 70, of Keaau, died Dec. 9, 2022, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, she was the owner and piano instructor for Mendoza-Watson Piano Studio, Director of Music Liturgy and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and member of Hawaii Music Teachers Association. Friends may call at 4 p.m. Jan. 5, 2023 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may again call at 8 a.m. Jan. 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 9:30 a.m. funeral Mass. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section. Family request casual attire be worn. She is survived by husband, Deacon David Watson of Keaau; brother, Armando (Lisa) Mendoza of Hilo; mother-in-law, Dona Watson of Utah; brother-in-law, Terry (Patricia) Watson of Utah; one niece, two nephews, one grandniece, two grandnephews and numerous cousins.
