Donors rally to save Pahoa High prom

Thanks to supportive Tribune-Herald readers and the community, Pahoa High School students raised the funds needed for their junior/senior prom.

As of Tuesday, the GoFundMe for the event had received $2,955 of its $4,000 goal. But thanks to community support, the fundraiser doubled its goal, raising $8,126 as of Saturday afternoon.

The Tribune-Herald on Wednesday published a story about the students’ need for funds.

“Thank you all SO MUCH for your generous donation!” Pahoa Teacher Michelle Lindsay-Lewis shared on the platform. “We have raised enough money to pay for the costs of prom!! We would love to now be able to pay for every senior to attend prom for free and with your help we will hopefully be able to make this happen! Thanks so much again!”

Words of support from the community were shared on the page, as well.

“As an alumnus of PHS, my heart goes out to each student,” said Carleen Corpuz. “May this prom give you memories of a lifetime.”

“Have a great prom,” said Judy Edwards. “Make a big night of it, and remember to be good to each other.”
