Charging for parking
Who decided to eliminate free parking in Kailua-Kona?
Is this a done deal?
I guess we all need to stop dining and shopping downtown, and instead, just eat fast food and patronize the Big Box stores that offer free parking.
Is anyone in charge?

Relevant after 70 years
Sometimes coincidence gives you chicken skin.
It’s Sunday, and I’m reading science fiction from a famous author published in the year 1953.
This comes from 70 years ago.
The writer is named Robert A. Heinlein, and one paragraph on page 138 was a jaw-dropper.
Enjoy this. (It has been slightly altered to avoid plagiarism and be appropriate for use in the media.)
“This continent has been a refuge of freedom, a place where a soul could grow. But forces that killed enlightenment in the rest of the world are spreading here.
“Little by little they have whittled away at human liberty and human dignity. A repressive law, a bullying school board, a blind dogma to be accepted under pain of persecution— doctrines that will shackle men and put binders on their eyes so that they will never regain their lost heritage.”
I had to read that again. Now, that is something to think about.
How incredibly relevant! Along with that comes the question: How can this be? Knowledge from so long ago.
And how would he possibly have any idea of bullying by school boards?
Thought-provoking.
