A 31-year-old Keaau woman is accused of assaulting her significant other with a closed fist and a motor vehicle.
Chelsey Kawehianalani Lewis is charged with second-degree assault and domestic abuse for the incident, which was reported shortly after noon Tuesday in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
According to police, officers responding to a reported active domestic dispute on 24th Avenue determined that Lewis was involved in a verbal argument with the victim, a 26-year-old man, within a vehicle on the roadway.
Police say Lewis struck the man twice with a closed fist on the left side of his face, which caused injury.
The victim then got out of the car to get away from Lewis, police said, and she rapidly accelerated the vehicle and clipped him on his left hip.
Lewis then allegedly reversed quickly and used the vehicle to pin the man against a metal fence.
The man, who sustained minor injuries, refused medical treatment, according to police.
Lewis was apprehended by patrol officers a few hundred feet away from the alleged crime scene.
At Lewis’ initial court appearance Thursday, she applied for the services of the public defender’s office. Lewis was ordered by Hilo District Judge Kanani Laubach to return at 2 p.m. Sept. 28 for a preliminary hearing.
Lewis is free on $3,000 bail.
