Police investigate gun threat at Hilo High
The Hawaii Police Department is investigating a gun threat made Wednesday at Hilo High School.
According to a police statement, school officials reported to police at 8:46 a.m. that they had received a call from a juvenile on the mainland who said they had been playing an online video game with “an unidentified gamer” who claimed they would bring a gun to the school.
After school officials informed police, officers conducted a search of the school and found no unauthorized people or weapons on campus.
School faculty conducted similar checks and determined that no lockdown was necessary.
Regardless, police have initiated a terroristic threatening case on behalf of the school and ask that anyone with information regarding the threat call the police nonemergency line at (808) 935-3300.
