Another week of Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) soccer kicked off Monday across the isle, headlined by the Division I and II girls soccer semifinals. The championship matches take place on Julian R. Yates Field at Konawaena High School this evening. See the paper Friday to read the results.
Soccer: HPA 5, Honoka‘a 0
Second-seeded Hawaii Preparatory Academy girls soccer recorded its fifth shutout of the season and third consecutive after a 5-0 blanking of No. 3 Honoka‘a in the semifinals in Waimea. Reece Lustik was Ka Makani’s goalie, stepping her game up in the biggest match of the season thus far.
Madie Buczyna, HPA’s top goal scorer, led the way for the red and white with two goals. Teammates Kekai Lansdale, Nohea Lansdale and Adriana Carrion with one goal each. It was the sixth time this season that the 1-7-1 Lady Dragons were shut out.
Ka Makani (7-4-0) has out-scored opponents 51-20 this season, officially punching its ticket to tonight’s DII championship at Konawaena against the defending state runner-up Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i, who is seeded first in the DII tournament. The two teams met twice this season, with the Lady Warriors winning both times — 2-0 on Dec. 20, 2024 and 3-0 on Dec. 7, 2024.
KSH poses a strong challenge for HPA, led by stars Madisyn Meyers, Kahalia Huddleston and Lily Kay-Wong. Allowing just one total goal against the BIIF this season, the Lady Warriors have secured eight shutouts in their 58-3 goal differential. Fourth-seeded Ka‘u forfeited Monday’s semifinal match, giving KSH a punched ticket to tonight’s match.

Hilo 9, Kealakehe 0
Hilo girls soccer advanced to tonight’s championship match in the Division I slate after a 9-0 rout of Kealakehe at Wong Stadium. Goalkeepers Haweo Maka‘imoku and Stephanie Hirowatari played a critical part in the victory.
Aneala Sibayan, one of the BIIF’s top scorers, led the Lady Vikings once again with four goals. Teammate Sharlette Chartrand secured a hat trick with three goals, while Akahai Kepo‘o-DeConte and Teiya Santiago scored one apiece.
Now being winners of four straight, Hilo has not lost a match in over a month — adding to its 49-15 goal differential. The Lady Vikings also have four shutouts this season.
Kealakehe fell to 3-6-0 on the season.
Hilo improved to 7-2-1, and will next be tasked with No. 1 Waiakea in tonight’s DI championship that features two east-side powerhouses. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
The Lady Vikings fell both times to the Lady Warriors in their two matchups this season — 4-2 on Dec. 18, 2024 and 5-1 on Dec. 6, 2024. Waiakea has posted seven shutout wins in its 10-1-0 record, logging an impressive 62-4 goal differential. The Lady Warriors are led by superstars such as Kalia Franklin, Charlie Silva and Daye Yanazaki.
Waiakea beat No. 4 Konawaena in the semifinals on Monday at home by a score of 5-0.
Basketball: Waiakea 29, HPA 17
Waiakea girls basketball won its second straight game after a 29-17 win over HPA in Hilo. The Lady Warriors improved to 6-6 overall and 5-5 in island play. The red and white fell to 5-7 overall.
There were no double-digit scorers in this game, but Kaya Texeira and Bryia Carenio led Waiakea with eight points apiece. Teammates Mercedes Murray scored five, while Kyra Ganir-Palma and Lexi Santiago combined for eight.
Rosey Wawner led Ka Makani with eight points, followed by teammate Miyabi Wahl with seven.
Averaging over 40 points per game in BIIF play, Waiakea’s next matchup is to be announced. HPA has lost two straight, and will look to rebound against Hilo at 6 p.m. tonight inside Castle Gymnasium.
Ka‘u 53, CLA 36
Ka‘u girls basketball earned another win with a 53-36 rout of Christian Liberty Academy on the road.
The Lady Trojans opened the night with a 20-4 first quarter, which set the tone for the remainder of the night. While the Canefire played better down the stretch, it had dug itself too deep into a hole for a comeback.
Jazmynn Navarro, who leads Ka‘u in scoring at 17.3 points per game in the BIIF, scored a team-high 13 points. Teammates Shaylie Martinez and Sky Pritchard scored 12 and 10, respectively.
CLA (2-10) was led by Adryana Lorenzo and Shiloh Glenn with 13 points each. Ari Sharp also scored six.
Averaging over 43 points per game on the island, the Lady Trojans will return to the hardwood at 6 p.m. tonight against Parker inside Ka‘u District Gymnasium. The Canefire’s season has ended, per ScoringLive.
Hilo 45, Kea‘au 26
Hilo boys basketball routed Kea‘au at home, winning 45-26 to secure its second straight win.
Viking Shaystan Iyo, who averages almost nine points a night, scored a game-high 17 points that included three 3-pointers made. His teammate, Kingston Frazier, scored 10.
On the Cougars’ side, swingman Jaizaiah Pahinui-Willets — who averages over 11 points per game — added nine points. Teammates William Kirklin, Rayden Handy and Asen Kamakeaaina scored five apiece.
Hilo improved to 4-4 in the BIIF (averaging 51.4 points per game on the island), and will next match up with St. Joseph’s at 6 p.m. Friday at home. Kea‘au (5-5) next hosts Pahoa at 6 p.m. Saturday inside the Cougars’ gymnasium.
