The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) boys basketball season continued to wrap up the regular season Tuesday, with matchups all across the isle. Island playoffs are set to begin this weekend. See the paper for updates.
KSH 69, Waiakea 41
Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i boys basketball won its 11th straight contest after routing Waiakea 69-41 in Hilo town. It was the 15th time this season that the 17-3 KSH Warriors have scored 60-or-more points.
KSH set the tone from the opening tip, leading 47-17 at the half. The lead became too insurmountable for Waiakea to come back.
KSH Warriors swingman Kawohi Huihui, who averages 17.8 points per game, scored a game-high 31 points with five 3-pointers made. It was the second time this season that Huihui has scored 30 or more. Teammate Kiai Yasso added 12 points, while Clay Ching had six.
As a team, KSH sank 10 3s. The team averages 70.5 points per game in the BIIF while allowing 37.
Waiakea’s top scorer Josiah Amuimuia was the player on his team that reached double digits in scoring, logging 12 points. Amuimuia averages 11 points per game this season. Teammates Jayzen Hough and Espn Pacheco had seven each.
Waiakea, now 8-11 overall, has lost five straight. In the conference, the team averages 53.9 points per game while allowing 44.3.
KSH will return to the floor to face DII rival Hawaii Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. tonight in Kea‘au to wrap up its regular season. Junior varsity will tip off first. Both teams are expected to be high seeds in the BIIF playoffs.

Kohala 70, SJS 25
Kohala boys basketball won its fourth game in a row after a 70-25 rout over St. Joseph’s in Kea‘au. The defending DII state champion Cowboys improved to 12-7 overall and and 10-2 in the BIIF. The hosting Cardinals dropped to 2-11.
Kohala set the tone in the very beginning, scoring 19 and 22 points in the first two quarters while playing suffocating defense. Star forward Jayden Hook scored a game-high 13 points, while teammate Lucky Kobeney added 10.
The Cowboys average 62.4 points per game in league play while allowing 40.3.
On SJS’s side, Amari Wiedemeier added nine while Connor Faletoi had six. The Cardinals have lost nine straight, averaging under 30 points per game.
Kohala played Waiakea on Wednesday night in Hilo town. See Friday’s paper for more. The Cowboys also play Kea‘au at 5:30 p.m. tonight inside the Cougars’ gymnasium.
SJS will face the Dragons at 6 p.m. tonight in Honoka‘a town for its final regular season game.
Kealakehe 65, Kea‘au 48
Kealakehe boys basketball ended its regular season on a high note, beating Kea‘au 65-48 on the eastern side of the island.
The winning Waveriders out-scored the Cougars in three of the four quarters. Kea‘au put together a 22-point fourth-quarter effort, but it was not enough to mount a late-game comeback.
Kealakehe’s leading scorer, DeMarion Olloway, scored a game-high 15 points. Olloway averages 16.5 points per game this season. His teammates, Estavon Morales and Isaac Cho, added 11 each. Kamalu Pabre and DeMani Olloway also combined for 17.
The 12-7 Waveriders average nearly 60 points per game on the season while allowing 45.3.
The Cougars have lost seven straight. They were led by Nyson Cabreros, who scored a game-high 22 points. Jaizaiah Pahinui-Willets added 11.
Kea‘au fell to 5-8 — now averaging 48.6 points per game and allowing 48.2.
While Kealakehe awaits its BIIF DI playoff opponent, Kea‘au will close the regular season tonight against Kohala at home. Junior varsity is slated to tip off first.
Kona 78, CLA 22
Konawaena boys basketball ended the regular season on a high note, routing Christian Liberty Academy 78-22 inside Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium.
The paper was unable to obtain a box score for this game by deadline.
The Wildcats ended their regular season on a five-game win streak, improving to 13-10 overall and 10-3 in the league. They average over 65 points per game in the BIIF while allowing 42. Dylan Nonaka is the team’s top scorer at nearly 15 points per game. Kona’s playoff seeding and opponent is yet to be decided.
The Canefire dropped to 1-12. CLA also faced Ka‘u late Wednesday night in Pahala. See Friday’s paper to read the results.
