KAILUA-KONA — Adults interested in an immersive, hands-on culinary experience centered around locally sourced ingredients are invited to apply for La‘i‘opua 2020’s second Forage & Fire cohort, which begins in early April.
This innovative four-week program blends education with practical skills, empowering adults to explore Hawaii’s rich food landscape while honing their cooking techniques.
Supported by a Hawaii County Wai Wai Grant, Forage & Fire takes participants on huaka‘i (journeys) to local food suppliers, where they select fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Then, under the expert guidance of program leaders Tracey Apoliona and Brightwell Youngstrom, participants return to La‘i‘opua’s certified kitchen to transform their finds into delicious dishes.
Guest chefs join the cohort, sharing their expertise and introducing diverse cooking methods.
The program culminates in a vibrant culinary showcase, where participants demonstrate their newfound skills and celebrate Hawaii’s abundant local produce.
The program is scheduled from April 3 to May 2, and applications are being accepted through Monday, March 17.
Interested adults are encouraged to visit La‘i‘opua 2020’s website at Laiopua.org for application details.
