HILO — Hilo baseball got its get-back against Konawaena on Tuesday night at Wong Stadium.
Televised on K5, the Vikings beat the Wildcats 3-1 — avenging their 5-4 loss to the green and white on March 16, which was the first time Kona beat Hilo in a decade.
The Vikings posted seven hits to the Wildcats’ five. Jaydon Geraci, who leads Hilo in hits, finished with a game-high two base hits and one RBI. Teammates Kamren Agpalza, Cole Hatayama, Kainui Keopuhiwa, Brennan Woods and Talus Sato posted one hit each.
Sato was also the Vikings’ sole pitcher — lasting all 7.0 innings while allowing five hits and one run. He also struck out 10. Sato has a 0.84 ERA in 2025.
For the Wildcats, Hayden Nishida and Kawika Fukunaga each posted a double, while Jaeden Meyers, Tate Garana and Travis Fediuk each had one hit. Kahiau Rivera and Koa Nakagawa shared the mound for Kona.
Hilo is now 7-2, winners of six straight and outscoring opponents 59-20. The Vikings’ final test of the regular season will come against Kamehameha-Hawaii at 1 p.m. Friday in Kea‘au. The Warriors are the only team Hilo has a losing record against this season, beating the Vikings 7-3 on March 18.
The Wildcats fell to 5-4 after winning two consecutive. They’ll look to get back on track against Waiakea at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hilo town. When the two schools last met on March 22, the Warriors won 1-0.
Honoka‘a 9, HPA 1
After falling to Pahoa last weekend, Honoka‘a baseball got back to its winning ways after beating Hawaii Prep for the third and final time this season Tuesday, winning 9-1.
The Dragons improved to 9-2, while Ka Makani fell to 7-4.
Honoka‘a posted six hits to HPA’s two. Chrys Coelho led the Dragons with two hits and four RBI, followed by teammates Jayden Salazar, Isaac Derego, Chayse Valenzuela and Kiakahi Lindsey with one hit each.
Pitcher Josyah Napoleon-Umeda collected his fourth win of the year after lasting all 7.0 innings. Across 110 pitches, he struck out nine while allowing just two hits and a run. Napoleon-Umeda has a 0.51 ERA this season.
Owen Smith and Kamea Leleiwi each logged one hit each for Ka Makani. Lex Ni, Ed Lustik and Wyley Ament all shared time on the mound for HPA.
The Dragons also faced Ka‘u on Wednesday in Honoka‘a town. See the paper Friday for more. Ka Makani next faces Pahoa at 3 p.m. this afternoon in Waimea. The season series between the two teams is 1-1, with HPA winning 4-3 on April 4.
KSH 13, Kealakehe 0
KSH baseball won its fifth consecutive game Tuesday in Kona town, run-ruling Kealakehe 13-0 in five innings. It was the second time the Warriors beat the Waveriders this season after also blanking them out 10-0 on March 15.
KSH scored six runs at the top of the fifth to seal the deal, posting 12 hits to Kealakehe’s one.
Braden Gomes led the winning Warriors with three hits, while teammates Justin Kubojiri and Noah Palea added two each. KSH also had Shiloh Santos, Keagan Pacheco, Kamaka Ili and Dayton Hanson logging one hit each.
Santos was named the game’s winning pitcher, along with Gomes closing the game. Santos has a 4-0 record and 0.99 ERA this season.
Rome Joaquin was Kealakehe’s only batter that logged a base hit. Kaden Telles was the ‘Riders’ primary pitcher.
Moving to 8-0-1, the Warriors have out-scored opponents 85-9. They’ll next play Hilo at 1 p.m. Friday in Kea‘au. KSH is 1-0 against the Vikings this season, winning 7-3 on March 18.
Kealakehe (1-8) has lost five straight, and will try to get back in the win column against Kea‘au at 11 a.m. Saturday on the road. The ‘Riders lone win came against the Cougars on March 22.
Hilo 15, Kona 2
Like the baseball team, Hilo softball handled business against Konawaena on Tuesday at Walter Victor Baseball Complex, routing the Lady Wildcats 15-2 in five innings.
The Vik Queens beat Kona for the second time this season after shutting the Lady Wildcats out 8-0 on March 15. Hilo finished the regular season a perfect 8-0. Per ScoringLive, the Vik Queens have no regular season matchups remaining.
Hilo posted 16 hits to Kona’s four. Madison Waiki led the Vik Queens with two home runs, five RBI and three base hits, while teammate Mackenzie Valentin added two homers, three hits and four RBI. Zaydee Amar had two hits for Hilo, while teammates Jeyla Bettis-Shigeishi, Vaiqueen Porter, Maluhia Hamada, Jacobi Alba-Kuwahara and Dashley Arurang posted one hit apiece.
Molly Davi was the Vik Queens’ sole pitcher in the circle, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out 10. Davi has an 8-0 record with an astounding 119 strikeouts this season. She leads the team in innings pitched, wins and strikeouts.
Jerzie Lopez led the Lady Wildcats with two base hits, while teammate Sunny Taketa had one. Leilani LeBrun-Ward was the sole pitcher for Kona.
Still winless at 0-6, the Lady Wildcats will seek win No. 1 of 2025 in their next matchup against Waiakea at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hilo town. When the two squads last played on March 22, the Lady Warriors narrowly won 1-0.
Hilo, who has out-scored opponents 61-9, will await the postseason.
