The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) boys volleyball season continued Tuesday night with matchups on the windward side of the isle. The season resumes today with Kanu o ka ‘Aina visiting Hawaii Preparatory Academy.
KSH 3, Waiakea 1
Kamehameha-Hawaii won its second straight match after beating east-side rival Waiakea in four sets in Kea‘au. KSH got its revenge on the visitors after falling in five sets on March 31.
KSH improved to 9-3, while Waiakea fell to 9-2. Waiakea won the first set 25-20, but KSH adjusted and won the final three sets 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22.
KSH was led by Kahaiolelo Helm with 23 kills, followed by teammate Jaydan Borling-Lewi with 10. In the assist department, Jayson Nakata and Analu Kaholokai-Yockman combined for 44. Yockman leads the team in assists this season with 138.
Helm and Borling-Lewi also combined for 18 digs. As a team, KSH blocked seven shots.
Waiakea had no players in double digits in kills, but Payton Dickens and Preston Kahihikolo combined for 17. Jacob Tajiri finished with a team-high 19 assists and eight digs, while teammate Xandy Francisco had 11 assists and six digs. Waiakea lost its first match since March 14, winning the previous seven.
KSH next plays Christian Liberty Academy at 5 p.m. Friday in Kea‘au. When the two teams last played on March 15, KSH won in straight sets.
Waiakea will rematch Hilo at 10 a.m. Saturday at home. The Warriors fell in four sets to the unbeaten Vikings on March 14.
Ka‘u 3, Pahoa 0
Ka‘u boys volleyball won its second straight match after sweeping Pahoa in Pahala. It was the second time this season the Trojans have beaten the Daggers.
Ka‘u won by set scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-23 — improving to 8-4 in 2025. Pahoa fell below .500 at 6-7.
The Trojans also faced unbeaten Hilo late Wednesday night on the road. See Friday’s paper for more.
The Daggers also next face the Vikings, but not until Monday in Hilo town. When the two schools last played, the Vikings swept.
Kea‘au 3, CLA 1
Kea‘au boys volleyball got back in the win column after dropping its last matchup, beating Christian Liberty Academy for the second time this season at home.
The Cougars beat the Canefire in four sets to improve to 4-10 — 25-12, 25-16, 13-25 and 25-22. CLA dropped to 2-9.
While Kea‘au has no remaining regular season matchups (per ScoringLive), CLA will take on KSH on Friday on the road.
