Four Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) schools competed Thursday night on Oahu in the Division I and II state tournaments for boys volleyball, but unfortunately all were swept in consecutive sets.
BIIF DI champion No. 4 Hilo lost in the quarterfinals by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18 to Kamehameha-Kapalama. It was the Vikings’ first loss this season after finishing the conference slate 14-0.
Conor Williams led the Warriors with 17 kills, while teammate Braden Maneja led defensively with nine digs. Nathaniel Koahou dished out a match-high 36 assists for KSH.
Maluhia Tandal led Hilo with 17 kills, while teammate Eric Travis Canon had a match-high 21 assists and nine digs.
The Vikings, now 14-1, were diverted to the consolation bracket to play University Lab School. KSK (14-6) played local opponent Moanalua in the semifinals.
On the opposite end of the DI state bracket, BIIF DI runner-up Konawaena fell to first-seeded Punahou 25-22, 25-17 and 25-17 in the quarterfinals.
The Buffanblu’s Tanoa Scanlan led the winners with 18 a match-high 18 kills and eight digs. Teammates Kahikina Marumoto and Ty Kikuchi combined for 43 assists.
Ellison Morgan was the only Wildcat that reached double figures in kills, logging a team-high 19. Teammate Braulio Medina Magana dished a team-high 16 assists.
Kona fell to 13-3 on the season, and took on Campbell in the consolation tournament. Punahou (16-0) went on to play No. 4 Maui in the semifinals.
Fifth-seeded BIIF DII champion Hawaii Preparatory Academy fell to Radford in the quarterfinals by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-19.
The Rams’ Keahi Kaneakua led the way with 13 kills, while teammate Micah Kalima-Keohohina led with 14 assists. On Ka Makani’s side, Kena Craven had a match-high 14 kills. Teammate Nicholas Pigotti dished out 21 assists — a match high.
HPA fell to 11-5 on the season, and faced off against local rival Parker in the consolation bracket. Radford improved to 9-4 and moved on to face first-seeded Le Jardin in the semifinals.
The BIIF DII runner-up Bulls fell to No. 1 Le Jardin in the quarterfinals by set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21. The Bulldogs stayed unbeaten at 16-0, while the Bulls fell to 9-7.
Le Jardin’s Laakea Kamahele finished with a match-high 20 kills, while teammate Nrennan Nakayama added 36 assists.
Parker’s Beaudin Schad finished with a team-high 11 kills, while teammate Takumi Wetherell dished 14 assists.
