Herman Harvey, 98, of Kailua-Kona died April 24 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. He was a retired program manager at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., and U.S. Navy veteran. No services at this time. Survived by partner, Margrit Mench of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Kipp Kahlia of Long Beach, Calif.; his son, Mark Harvey of Zurich, Switzerland. Melvin Hulilani Hoohuli, 44, of Kailua-Kona died May 6 at Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua. He was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic and member of the Kona Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club. Celebration of life at a later date. Survived by wife; Kristie Kamakaokalani-Hoohuli; son, Kulike Hoohuli; daughters, Kaelyn (Kurt Arellano) Kamakaokalani and Kailee (Elijah Kahele) Kahawaii; sisters, Linda (Bruce) Hoohuli-Aipia and Kuulei (James Wiese) Hoohuli; brother, Calvin (Loke) Hoohuli; hanai brothers, Bulla (Davelynn Esperanza) Villanueva and Makaio Abraham; hanai sister, Alohi Abraham; two nieces and two nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements are being handled by Dodo Mortuary.

Harlan Floyd Nicolaus, 96, of Hilo died April 23 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Haper, Neb., he was a retired sheetmetal worker, member of the Sheetmetal Union Local 104 and U.S. Army veteran. Memorial service held. Survived by sister, Martha Grohs of Sioux City, Iowa; a niece. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
