Christine Lani O‘pua Baldado, 87, of Papaikou died April 13 at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation Center. Born in Kalaoa Mauka, Papaikou, she was a dedicated athlete, competing in senior league softball, canoe paddling with Kai Malia Canoe Club, volleyball with Puakenikeni Volleyball Club at Haili and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Honomu Ward. Visitation from 8-10 a.m. Friday, May 30 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 522 Ponahawai Street, Hilo. Service at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Alae Cemetery. Aloha attire encouraged. Survived by children, Glen (Lori) Baldado of Hilo, Norma Jean Baldado of Calif. and Jason Baldado of Hilo; six grandchildren, one great-grandson; sisters, Momi (Stanley) Ho of Pearl City, Josephine (Joe) Santillanes of Albuquerque, N.M., Magdeline (Li) Baldado of Wainaku, and Dorene Baldado of Keaukaha; brothers, John (Shirley) Baldado of Kona, Quentin (Rufina) Baldado, James Baldado, and Jacob Keaweaheulu of Kalaoa Mauka, Papaikou, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lydia Bautista Esteves, 78, of Hilo died May 9 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in the Philippines, she was a farmer for a macadamia nut farm. Service from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Hilo. Survived by daughters Caroline E. Martinez, Melinda E. Torio, Leila B. Esteves, all of the Philippines; brothers Rizalino M. Bautista and Jaime M. Bautista, both of the Philippines; sisters Adelaida B. Gebin of Hilo and Aurora B. Norman Oscar Menke, 90, of Hilo died March 14 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Granville, Wis., he was a truck driver and factory worker for EST Company and a dairy farmer.
